North band successful at MPA, Disney

Staff Report

North Henderson’s band program had one of their most successful weeks in recent memory.

The band spent last weekend at Disney World competing in Festival Disney with bands from across the country. Both the concert band (9th-10th graders) and the Wind Ensemble (11th-12th graders) won best in their class. The Wind Ensemble placed first overall in the competition, while the Concert Band earned third place. A total of twenty-three bands were in attendance.

Both bands performed well again on Tuesday by earning straight superiors in MPA competition at Smoky Mountain High School.

Having both bands earn superior ratings at MPA, and dominating at national competitions isn’t something new for North. The band has traveled across the Eastern part of the United States for highly competitive festivals ever since being re-established in 2008 when current band director Steve Sigmon was hired.

Individually at the Disney Festival, senior Josie Cameron stole the show. The clarinet player was named the Outstanding Soloist for all bands.
