North DECA competes at state competition

Staff Report

North Henderson’s DECA Club made the trip to Greensboro for annual state competition over the weekend. Students participated in single and partner role plays in categories such as Principles of Hospitality and Tourism, Sports and Entertainment Marketing and more.

North had several students earn high scores. Notably, Madison Russell (Sports and Entertainment Marketing) and Kennedy Wright (Human Resources) were both finalists in their respective categories. Tierney Ryan, Joey Banz and Kinley Freeman were all certified in the hospitality category.

Overall, the group earned a proficiency out of the fifteen students that attended.

Maria Vera, who represents the district and North as president, put an end to her successful DECA career.

“I am thankful for the past 3 State conferences I have attended. Because of them I have grown as a person and I have become a better leader, all thanks to DECA. As the president of my chapter, I am beyond proud of all the competitors. They gave it their all and made it a great state conference.”
North’s DECA also had a good showing at the Western Regional back in November by placing third.
