North Henderson’s Band sent over 50 of the best local high school musicians to the All-County Concert on Tuesday.
Additionally, 13 of the band’s top musicians performed in the Western Carolina University Honor Band on Saturday.
Those who traveled to Western Carolina University for a brief clinic and performance were Piper Merrill, Seth Corn, Emily Miller, Maya Ellis, Allie Hendl, Josie Cameron, Christina Hazell, Rae’Quan Harvey, Adam Lytle, Charlie Floyd, Nathan Duckett, Aaron Katzenberger, and Parker Dula.
All members were referred to the band by their teacher Steve Sigmon and then selected by Western Carolina University. The Honor Band had students from both North and South Carolina.
The achievement shows the accumulation of hard work put in by North Henderson’s Band with this year being one of many where North had at least ten members make the band, with most of its success coming when Steve Sigmon became director.
“It’s so rewarding to have spent a weekend doing what we love,” senior Honor Band member Maya Ellis said. “Being in the Honor Band really is an Honor because Western has such an amazing music program.”
Participants spent two and a half days learning unknown music, and performed it on Saturday afternoon.
