With only four games left in the regular season, the North Henderson volleyball team spent their Saturday afternoon at the annual Volley For A Cure tournament at North Henderson fine tuning their game for the upcoming postseason, and they impressed a sizable crowd.
The Lady Knights went undefeated (2-0) on Saturday by defeating both Owen and Avery High School by scores of 3-0.
The tournament consisted of four teams in East Henderson, Avery County, Owen, and North Henderson High School.
In their first match of the day against Owen, the Lady Knights came out of the gates at full speed as they took down the Lady Warriors by a convincing score of 25-8 and won their second set, 25-6.
North continued their hot streak by opening their third set with a 9-0 run and toppled Owen, 25-5 to seal up their 3-0 win.
“For the most part, we controlled the momentum, and for the most part, we did little things right,” North coach Sue Moon said on her team’s early morning performance.
Leaders for the team on the stat sheet were Caroline Marsh (26 kills), Teegan Bullock (26 assists, 7 aces), and Anna Baldwin (9 kills, 7 digs, 7 aces).
In the closing match of the tournament, North faced off against Avery County.
The Lady Vikings did everything they could to stop North’s Caroline Marsh, but the senior possessed too much power as North beat Avery, three sets to zero.
After breezy through the first two sets, with a new line up, North faced their biggest challenge of the day as they were down 14-10 mid third set, which was the most North was behind throughout the tournament. Although, a mix of Lady Knights brought the team back to life and North grabbed a 25-19 third set win to get their second win of the day, 3-0.
Statistical leaders for North were Caroline Marsh (20 kills), Teegan Bullock (16 assists, 11 digs), and Anna Baldwin (10 digs, 7 aces).
North now moves to 15-2 overall and will play host to Pisgah Monday, October 10th for their last home game of the season.
