Weekly sports roundup: volleyball dominates, soccer goes 1-1

See how North’s athletic teams performed this past week in a weekly sports roundup. 

Soccer

Monday: Smoky Mountain 0, North Henderson 3

The men’s soccer team hosted Smoky Mountain on Monday night for a conference matchup at North.

The Knights picked up a 3-0 win behind splendid play from Josue Santos. For a full recap of the game, click here.

Wednesday: West Henderson 6, North Henderson 2

The soccer team hosted West Henderson on Wednesday for a Western North Carolina Athletic Conference clash.

The Knights got on the scoreboard first with a goal from Jouse Santos in the 16th minute, and Santos struck again just seconds later to give North an early 2-0 lead.

However, the Falcons would get on the scoreboard themselves just eight minutes later and West scored once more not long after later to tie North 2-2. The two rivals went into halftime at a 2-2 draw.

West Henderson would score four goals throughout the second half to beat North by a score of 6-2.

The team will be traveling to Pisgah on Friday, October 7th for a conference matchup.

Volleyball

Tuesday: North Henderson 3, Tuscola 0

The Lady Knights traveled to Tuscola on Tuesday night.

Behind Caroline Marsh’s 23 kills and Teegan Bullock’s 34 assists, North took down the Mountaineers by a score of 3-0.

The set scores were 25-23, 25-10, and 25-18.

The Junior Varsity team won, 2-0.

Thursday: North Henderson 3, Franklin 1

The Lady Knights traveled to Franklin on Thursday for another tough conference matchup.

Caroline Marsh led the Lady Knights by recording 35 kills in North’s 3-1 win against the Lady Panthers. Teegan Bullock produced 41 assists.

The set scores were 25-14, 17-25, 25-16, and 25-13.

The Lady Knights end the week with a record of 13-2 overall and 9-2 in their conference.

The Junior Varsity team also won on Thursday, 2-0.

Women’s Golf 

North’s lone golfer Tori Mcgraw played in the first round of WNCAC tournament at Etowah Valley on Tuesday and shot a 108.

The junior is still in the running for all-conference honors.
