North’s Josue Santos has been an essential part of the Knights’ offense this season, and he continued his favorable trend by scoring two goals en route to North Henderson’s 2-1 victory against Tuscola on a 75 degree night at Glenn C. Marlow Stadium.
Santos and the North offense wasted no time in getting into its groove as Santos out ran the Tuscola defense to punch in a goal to give the Knights an early 1-0 lead after superior team passing.
Although, the Mountaineer offense got things going early in the first half also when they snuck a goal past North’s defense at the 26:12 minute mark to even the game up, 1-1. The two teams then traded possessions as both goalkeepers kept the offense’s quiet to end a physical first half at a 1-1 draw.
The North offense found a spark in second half for the second straight game as they pressured Tuscola and put multiple shots on goal, but couldn’t finish the job. However, after a yellow card was given to the Mountaineers, Josue Santos benefited his team once more by scoring a goal on a penalty kick to put the Knights up 2-1 with 21:05 to go in the second half.
“I just kept my head up and got the job done for my team,” Santos said on his clutch goal.
Goalkeeper Josue Solano did his part by stopping a goal from the outside corner with ten minutes to go from Tuscola after a yellow card was handed out to North. The junior did the same with two minutes left by stopping a Mountaineer shot attempt to seal up North Henderson’s second conference win of the season.
The team will now play at home quite a bit in the near future, and that’s a good thing considering the advantages the team has over their opponents. “Five of our next six games are at home and we have to take advantage of our bigger field and out play our opponents”, North Head Coach Wayne Nock said.
North now moves to 5-7 overall on the season and 2-1 in conference play. The next game for the trending team is Wednesday night at home as they host Franklin with JV starting at five o’clock.
In earlier action, the North JV team battled Tuscola to 2-2 draw.
