North has been searching for their first conference win of the year ever since their loss at West Henderson on Monday night, and they got that monkey off their back with tremendous all-around play to overpower East Henderson, 4-0, and grab an important WNCAC win on Wednesday.
To start off what was a cool and crisp night, goalkeeper Josue Solano played some of his best soccer of the season and tallied multiple saves to keep East Henderson scoreless as they threaten to score multiple times in the first half, including blocking a penalty kick from East. Solano knew he had to stay focused on the task at hand with all eyes on him. “I just stayed focused. A lot of people were screaming my name, but I just stayed focused on the game. That’s what I do best and that helped me”, Solano said.
The junior’s impressive goalkeeping helped North shutout the Eagles in the first half as things were all tied up going into the break at 0-0.
In the second half, Solano was once again a big part of North’s defensive dominance as he notched several of his eleven total saves early.
Then, the offense found a spark as Josue Santos cut through several defenders and scored at the 25:00 minute mark to give the Knights a 1-0 lead after a nifty assist from Jose Alvarez. He struck a second time at the 18:00 minute mark with a another goal and assisting him was Anselmo Castillo.
Santos started a movement as Castillo found the net with five minutes left in the game and Rony Rivas did the same with roughly two minutes to go and complete their 4-0 shutout of their county-rival.
The Knights now move to 4-7 overall and 1-1 in conference play. The next match for the team is this coming Monday as they host Tuscola.
In earlier action on Wednesday night, the North JV team won by a score of 3-2.
