The North Henderson Lady Knights hosted the Franklin Panthers Tuesday evening at Tom Pryor Gymnasium. The Lady Knights were looking to extend their win streak to four games coming off wins against #36 (Maxpreps NCHSAA 3A) ranked Tuscola and local powerhouse A.C. Reynolds. North defeated Franklin 3-0 (25-17, 25-14, 25-18).
During the first set it was all North after a brief trading of points. North took the set with ease by a score of 25-17. However, during the second set the Lady Knights started out sluggish. Head Coach Sue Moon was fired up pacing up and down the coaches box. North then started to gain back control and get in the rhythm of scoring points a bunch at a time.
“…We always do better as a team when we can trust each other to make important plays like that.”
Up 19-10, Freshman Ashley Patton and Senior Teegan Bullock recorded a huge block to extend the lead to 10 and the Lady Knights didn’t look back winning the second set 25-14. “It really boosted the team’s intensity, which helped us finish out the set strong. We always do better as a team when we can trust each other to make important plays like that” said Patton on the block. Bullock added “It’s one of the best feelings to get a block. It really helps build the defense and it pumps the team up and helps us stay motivated”.
Going into the third and match set, it held a feel just like the second. North and Franklin traded points early going back and forth until it was tied 8-8. The Lady Knights then exploded into a short run which would be followed by a few Panther points. That same scenario would happen throughout the third set and the Lady Knights couldn’t fully pull away.
Finally up 24-18 after a trade of possessions off a Panther serve, Bullock set up Caroline Marsh and she causally fooled the defense and tipped the ball in to register yet another kill. The Lady Knights took the third and final set 25-18, and Marsh lead the way with 30 kills on the night, her third game in a row with that statistic. Bullock had a 30 spot as well but in assist.
The Lady Knights move to 7-1 on the season and 3-1 in the Western North Carolina Athletic Conference. They are currently ranked 8th out of 100 schools in the Maxpreps NCHSAA 3A Rankings. Senior Captain Caroline Marsh commented on the ranking, “It feels so great because I know that we can get even higher if we keep up this winning streak. If we have a strong finish in conference then we can go far in (the) playoffs this year”. North travels to Pisgah on Thursday for their next match at 6:30 PM.
